Business Development Manager
Reports to: VP Sales & Strategic Partnerships

Salary Structure: Base Salary + Commission
Primary Objectives of the Position:
The Business Development Manager reports to the VP of Sales & Strategic Partnerships to support the Sales team in executing and coordinating exhibit booth sales and advertising opportunities for the following societies: APS, ASBC, Cereals & Grains Association, and Master Brewers. This position is responsible for assisting in achieving annual sales goals for in-person event exhibit booths and advertising for these four societies. Advertising opportunities to sell include digital, native, podcast, and social.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist with selling exhibit booths for annual meetings for each Society
- Assist with selling advertising opportunities for each Society
- Manage relationships with current and potential exhibitors and advertisers
- Prospect and pursue allied industry partners who are a great fit to exhibit or advertise with each Society
- Educate companies on exhibit and advertising opportunities available to them within each Society
- Recognize and share larger opportunities with allied industry partners
- Collaborate cross-departmentally with Scientific Societies staff and Society volunteers
- Achieve annual sales goals for exhibits and advertising
Qualification Requirements:
- BA/BS degree in science, marketing, communications, or related field
- 3-5 years of professional experience in related area
- Proven ability to think strategically and successfully make connections between allied industry partner needs and the opportunities that our Society can provide them to meet those needs
- Ability to understand and manage multiple sales cycles between multiple societies/stakeholders
- Strong negotiation skills
- Effective project management skills with an ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Collaborative and inclusive approach to work with the ability to effectively gain input from various stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong attention to detail
- Proven understanding of effective sales practices as well as digital advertising, podcasts, and social media platforms
- Pro-actively identify areas lacking support and step up to help drive projects forward
- Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Candidate must be fully vaccinated prior to candidate’s start date
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of nonprofit organizations
- Experience with events/tradeshows
- Experience with advertising
